This month we speak to Roxy, who runs The Swig and Filly alongside her partner James – providing mobile bars with a difference. They offer a wide variety of packages inside their tastefully converted horsebox, retro airstream and converted tricycle bar to cater for any taste.

Who’s behind the Swig and Filly?

So The Swig and Filly was born when a good friend of ours decided to lovingly convert a vintage rice horse trailer into a premium mobile bar. He put extra love and attention into all the details because this beauty was going to be the bar for his very own wedding! After a few years of successfully growing The Swig and Filly, to have a retro Airstream and converted trike along side and being Roxy’s boss Alex decided to hand the tow-bar over. James & I, having worked within hospitality, events, weddings, festivals etc were the right couple to be the new faces behind the bar.

What services are on offer?

What don’t we offer?! Ha, no but really if it’s to do with the bar, we cover it! We offer the standard packages; Dry Hire, Cash Bar, Team Hire, Pre paid drinks, Tab Limits, Minimum spend etc but what we pride ourselves on is creating bespoke quotes per event, as no wedding is ever the same!

Tell us about the different bars you offer.

We are so proud of our fleet, which all started with the converted horsebox bar with her copper tiled bar top and reclaimed pallet light fitting and two serving points. Then came the converted Tricycle bar with a matching colour finish to the horse box, they really were crafted to be a pair. For the smaller event we also offer our Rustic Barrels as a pop up bar – which works great for a wine bar & bottled beer bar. We then took a step back and felt the fleet was lacking with offering something retro – The Airstream was then designed for just that purpose, fitted with a neon ‘BAR’ light making this the perfect festival feel vibe bar!

Our newest bar offering is a collaboration we are super chuffed with… We also now offer to operate and run Country Tipis’ 2m or 4m pallet-wood bars – so we now feel, we have it all covered, come rain or shine we can be shaking those cocktails for you all!

What can I expect at a Swig and Filly party?

We love working with local suppliers and having craft beers on tap and new to the market spirits and mixers amongst the classic firm favourites available. Our fun flare, professional staff and outstanding cocktails will be sure to leave you and your guests with something to talk about. Our goal for all parties is to achieve a diverse and one of a kind experience.

Predictions for popular drinks/cocktails for 2021?

Da Dada dada da daaaa Tequila! A little birdy told us that the spirit of the summer is Tequila! Within the drinks world I think we’re going to see a rise with the classic Paloma and Margarita! Rum is also being shown a lotta love at the moment, with developing rum twists! A part from that, I think a drink served by a friendly member of staff is what’s popular this year.

Tell us a few words on the recent link with Country Tipis at Vanstone Park as their exclusive bar provider.

We are super excited about being the bar suppliers for this gorgeous venue working along side the great bunch that is Country Tipis! We feel we have a great working relationship that will enable us to deliver the very best for our couples and clients!

If you were planning your own wedding, which structure would you choose?

Ooo now this is a tough one, because recently through lockdown I have started planning my wedding (currently not getting married any day soon, as I need the ring on my finger first…. James if you are reading I hope you appreciate my subtle hint 🙂 and I think I am set on having a 2/3 tipi set up for the main area with the festoon lighting. I’m hoping the venue will have an area away from the tipi section, for our arrival drinks and nibbles to be served under a stretch tent. Then to finish off the day I really want to have a bell tent glamping village for everyone, to really achieve that festival feel!

Thanks to Roxy, from The Swig and Filly for speaking to us, if you’d like any more supplier recommendations check out our suppliers list or get in touch!
