Real Wedding – Rachel & Ryan

A dream wedding

In late August last year Rachel & Ryan decided to tie the knot in the grounds of Lodge Farm House close to Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The ever stylish and creative Nicki Shea Photography captured their special day in this selection of beautiful snaps, enjoy!

It’s always great to see Lee Smith wowing guests at one of our weddings. He’s great at keeping everyone entertained, kids and adults alike!

This is the secret garden, where you can hold your ceremony, shhh!

Choosing the right venue

It’s so important to choose a venue that suits both of you. Location, facilities, accommodation options, style and size are all important factors to consider. Lodge Farm House is a B&B, so you have an accommodation option right next to the reception. It’s only a small house, so other guests can stay in nearby Hitchin or Stevenage. Their secret garden provides a beautiful quiet setting to hold a “show” ceremony and comes complete with an arbour. If you like the look of the venue get in touch with Maria who will be more than happy to show you around. If you’re looking for something a bit different from your venue send us a message or take a look at our interactive venues map.

Time to party!

Rachel & Ryan hired the incredible beatboxers Bloxed Beats to perform in the evening, as you can see they provided some great entertainment!

Big thanks to Nicki Shea Photography for sharing these fantastic photos with us.

Real Wedding – Gemma & Kara

Gemma & Kara’s laid back bohemian style wedding was featured on the Rock My Wedding blog last year. We’re in love with it so much that we’re sharing it here too. The beautiful tones, special moments and soft light were captured by the brilliant Elena Popa. She coupled emotive portraits with party shots at the fantastic Lakeside at Tip Top Venues. Enjoy!

Wedding planning

Kara: “We were going for a relaxed outdoor wedding vibe. From creating our own retrographic invitations, salvaging wood and making our wedding bower, to lugging over hay bales for our fire pit seating. If you are planning on putting a lot of personal touches which require preparation or building make sure you check that the venue will allow you to get on site before the big day and we were lucky that Tip Top Venues let us do that. We managed to set up the site with plenty of hands to help decorate the Tipis and ceremony area with homemade shepherd hooks and vases, hanging homemade wreathes and the wedding bower itself all beautifully decorated with the bountiful flowers we got from the wholesalers.”

The Ceremony

“After the ceremony the VW campervan took us for a private photoshoot with our very talented photographer Elena Popa, whilst the campervan served us ice cold champagne. Despite all the love overflowing from friends and family throughout the day and evening getting some time with my new wife was one of my most favourite moments.”

The Reception

“As we came back we greeted all of our friends with our bartender dazzling with his cocktail skills and headed into the tipi with the sides up to look over the lakes and sit down to our amazing feasting tables who pulled out all the stops. No ‘chicken or fish’ options here – just long wooden tables with smiling faces, grazing on breads, cheeses, seafood, cured meats and much more provided by Amazing Graze. Set out exquisitely in between decorations and our own nik-naks on the rustic furniture provided by Country Tipis. We decided that most people discard favours, so we ordered hand carved place names from Etsy, it was great and everyone kept them and had lots of pictures of people using them in their own homes!”

Top Tips

“Gem and I both loved our dresses (supplied by Wed2B), but as evening came we swapped them for our dancing clothes to party the night away. As silly it sounds all of the little things you could never think of made it go seamlessly. We had great toilets (which is important for an outdoor wedding!) friendly security to keep everybody safe, and enough drink to keep everyone satisfied!”

“It was the best day for us, whatever your wedding just make it your own because at the end of it you will look back and love every second with all the uniqueness of your love. And if anything does go wrong then smile because it will only make a great story.”

Inspiration! Tipi decoration

We are passionate about making your special day one to remember, and we’re offering you an exclusive sneak-peak inside a few of our 2016 wedding set-ups to give you a bit of inspiration. We are of the belief that our tipis are beautiful naked with simple, tasteful table decoration as the structures are fascinating on their own (though we may be biased!) As standard we wrap fairy lights around every other leg, which create a beautiful glow inside the tipis once the sun sets and the party really starts.

We often get asked if it is possible to hang objects from the inside of the structure, which is absolutely fine as long as you do not screw/hammer anything into the wood or damage it in any way. We can also offer you the option to hang something from the crown of the tipi, like an old cartwheel decorated with flowers (below), or one of our chandeliers. If you have an object that is special to you this can also be hung above the tables, let your imagination run wild!

As for table decoration, we absolutely love simplicity and seasonal flowers always create a beautiful centrepiece, but at the same time you can also go for something completely different to really showcase your personality. We work closely with the fantastic Beth from Pots in Bloom who is based in Hitchin and can offer creative and seasonal table decoration. Check out the autumnal spread she put together for our open day last year below, full of conkers and foraged greenery! We also love to see vintage mistmatched crockery from Classic Crockery which matches the look and feel of our tipis so well.

However you decide to decorate the inside of your tipis, we know you’ll make them look absolutely stunning! They provide such an incredible natural canvas for you personalise with your own touches.

Over the past year we’ve been considering the possibility of projecting images of the bride and groom (or anyone else!) onto one of the sides of the tipi, which is something we haven’t tried yet but would love to. Let us know if you’d like to be our guinea pigs!

Peggy’s bar – New for 2017

First of all, we hope you had a great Christmas and New Year, we certainly did! We’ve got a number of new offerings for 2017, and at our Christmas party we launched “Peggy’s Bar” as we felt that we could improve on what was being offered elsewhere. We had the best time running it and the feedback we got was (thankfully) great! Peggy approved of the clientele and behaved herself throughout the night, and she can’t wait for the next event where she’ll get to run the bar. It’s wise to note that Peggy gets very territorial around her bar, so keep your drink close at all times!

Bar, Alcohol, Mobile, PartySo, what’s on offer?

We have a number of different options when it comes to the bar; first of all you have a choice between our fully equipped converted horsebox bar or our 4 metre oak topped bar constructed from up-cycled pallet wood. Our horsebox bar can be linked seamlessly to our tipis, giving you a huge amount of additional space for your guests to form an orderly queue. Once you’ve decided which bar you’d like to go for you can then choose to have it fully stocked by us or with service only – where you provide the alcohol. We’ll provide two experienced members of staff for the duration of your event in both cases to run the bar and ensure your guests never go thirsty.

What alcohol choices do I have?

Beer-wise we use a number of local breweries, and have a great relationship with Tring Brewery who supplied us with some great ale for our Christmas party that seemed to evaporate in minutes! We pride ourselves in the quality of the alcohol we stock and maintain fair pricing throughout our range. If there is a specific drink you would like for your event we’d happily stock it but we ask that you buy the remainder (if there is any!) back from us at cost price after the event.

We have lovingly created these two bars to use alongside our tipis, and we feel that their style lends itself perfectly to a tipi party. This rustic style can be found throughout our range of extras, from our handmade scaffold board table and bench sets to our vintage French apple crates, sourced from the south of France. Both bars can stand-alone outside the tipis if the weather is fair, or even underneath our small open-sided Nimbus tipi if you’re looking for a bit of cover. Check out Peggy’s very own website here and send us a message if you’d like any further information.

Here’s to a great 2017, we hope see you soon!
